LAUNCH NIGHT! @ THE PHOENIX

REPORT

StillPoint had it’s official launch night on Weds 4th March 2009 at The Phoenix Cinema in Jericho, Oxford. Ian and Matt presented the vision for a centre for the practice of Christian spirituality and were joined by special guests John Pritchard - the Bishop of Oxford - and Jamie Catto  - one half of the innovative film and music makers 1GiantLeap.

About 120 people turned up to hear more about what Stillpoint is all about. We discussed the question of why the Christian tradition seems an unlikely place to discover spiritual depth for many people in today’s world and it was good to hear Jamie and John’s views on this. We spoke of Stillpoint’s desire to re-present spiritual wisdom from within the Christian tradition and make it accessible to today’s spiritual traveller.

We also saw three chapters from 1GiantLeap’s stunning film, ‘What About Me?’ which addresses issues such as the bombardment we are faced with in our culture, the need to awaken, and what to do with the pain that we all carry.

There are a set of photos of the night available here.

Our Stations of the Cross exhibition returned for a second year - this time for an extended run (almost a month). Gathering together the work of 14 local artists the exhibition is a contemporary reimagining of the traditional Stations of the Cross.

Like last year we had a huge diversity of pieces, media and styles.

BLESS_ED ART EXHIBITION

8-20 MARCH 2011

HARBOUR HOUSE GALLERY

KINGSBRIDGE, DEVON

Following two successful art exhibitions based around the practice of Stations of the Cross at the Jam factory Gallery in Oxford, StillPoint curated another exhibition in March 2011 at Harbour House in Kingsbridge, South Devon.

We invited 20 south-west based artists from various spiritual traditions and none to engage with the core sayings of the teacher Jesus, the so-called 'Beatitudes' and other sayings from the 'Sermon on the Mount'.

Here are some thumbnail images of some of the work:

SOIL & SOUL FESTIVAL

28TH APRIL 2012

THE ISIS FARMHOUSE PUB & BOATHOUSE

We’re very excited about this mini-festival which we’re hosting on the last Saturday of April this year.

Soil & Soul will celebrate the earth and contemplative spirituality through music, art, poetry, and plenty of other means.

We’re very excited to have Peter Owen-Jones with us for the day. Peter has done a huge amount to reconnect Christianity with the earth through his writings and TV shows.

The venue is the Isis Farmhouse Pub and Boathouse on the banks of the river Thames in Oxford - a fantastic venue which is inaccessible by car (we thought this fitted well with the theme of the day!). But there’s no need to panic! The venue can be reached by a short walk down the towpath.

It should be a fantastic day - and a new kind of event for StillPoint. Book now to avoid disappointment.
